We are seeking a skilled and experienced Paving Leadman to join our team. As the Paving Leadman, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the crew and projects, ensuring quality, safety, and production goals are met. You will play a crucial role in building lasting relationships with crew members, providing training and supervision, and leading the crew on the job. Your primary focus will be prioritizing job safety while delivering a high-quality construction job that exceeds customer expectations in terms of quality and blueprint design, including drainage and functionality of the product. This is an experienced position that will function as an assistant foreman.

Key Responsibilities:

Leading and Supervision:

  • Manage and lead the crew to ensure efficient operations and high-quality work.
  • Build strong relationships with crew members and provide guidance and support.
  • Assist in the training and supervision of the crew to enhance their skills and productivity.
  • Prioritize job safety above all and enforce compliance with corporate policies and procedures.
  • Report any problems or issues to the Foreman, Superintendent, or Safety Manager.

 Project Execution:

  • Operate the asphalt paver and adjust it to obtain the proper depth, grade, and finished cross-section of the asphalt material.
  • Collaborate with other crew members to apply asphalt according to plan specifications.
  • Perform tasks of other crew positions as instructed by the foreman to ensure daily operations are met.
  • Follow traffic control instructions and practice safety standards as per company and ATTSA Safety Policy requirements.
  • Monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure the machine is working properly.
  • Perform daily maintenance checks on equipment.
  • Ensure all tools are stored properly at the end of each shift.
  • Conduct general cleanup around the job site.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. frequently.
  • Stand, walk, and climb for extended periods.
  • Occasional sitting in a normal position for an extended time.
  • Frequent reaching, handling, and feeling.
  • Strong finger dexterity is required.

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate to high noise level.
  • The work environment is not climate-controlled, and exposure to extreme heat and cold may occur.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as an equipment operator in the asphalt industry.
  • Operational experience as a Screed Operator is preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Depth perception and ability to judge distances accurately.
  • Visual acuity for details at both close and distant ranges.
  • Quick response time to signals.
  • Ability to anticipate changes in the speed and direction of moving objects.
  • Swift decision-making in response to multiple signals or stimuli.

The posted salary or pay compensation ranges are approximate and dependent on applicable experience and qualifications. Upper ranges are flexible.
